About
About Our School
Wales Primary School was opened in 1876 with the building facing the main road - known as the infant building and house - being the school's only building at this time. As the school community grew in the subsequent decades, further buildings across the school site were built to accommodate more pupils. A foundation stage was built in 2002 attached to the school hall. The most recent addition to the school site is a modular building built in 2015 as school for the first time increased to 8 classes as the demand for school places in the local area increased. As a result, the school is a split site which consists of seven separate buildings standing in extensive grounds.
The school has a swimming pool which was built in the 1970s with money raised by parents, a multi-use games area and a range of zoned outdoor play areas.
The area around the school is environmentally rich. The school grounds have an established wildlife area with a pond, a copse of trees, butterfly bank and a winter and summer meadow. These areas are used by school staff to provide rich learning opportunities for children.
The school has close links with the local community, including churches, businesses, community centres and projects; children make many visits in the local area and visitors from the community often contribute to our curricular themes.
Every classroom has an interactive whiteboard and has wireless internet connection. The school also has a computer suite (from 2022) which is used weekly by classes to support the computing curriculum as well as 2 class sets of ipads for children to use to enhance teaching and learning.
