Everyone at Wales Primary School is committed to, and passionate about, providing the conditions and opportunities to enable any child , including those with with additional needs, to be included fully in all aspects of school life.

What ‘special educational needs’ means

The term ‘special educational needs’ (SEN) has a legal definition, referring to children who have learning difficulties or disabilities that make it harder for them to learn or access education than most children of the same age.

Many children will have SEN of some kind at some time during their education. Help will usually be provided in their ordinary school, sometimes with the help of outside specialists.

If your child has special educational needs, they may need extra help in a range of areas, for example:

  • learning
  • reading, writing, number work or understanding information
  • expressing themselves or understanding what others are saying
  • making friends or relating to adults
  • behaving properly in school
  • organising themselves
  • some kind of sensory or physical needs which may affect them in school

If your child’s teacher has concerns about their progress and is feels that they may require additional support in school to help them to progress they will discuss this with you.

Remember we really value your insight on your child, after all you are the world’s expert on them!

If you feel that your child is struggling at school in any way, or you are worried that they may have an additional need please talk to us we will do all we can to help.

If you are worried about your child at home or at school please come and talk to us, we can often help or we can put you in touch with someone for advice and support!
