Fantastic Family Picnic!
A huge thank you to everyone who attended the first Wales Family Picnic. It was a fabulous afternoon of fun with everyone enjoying the different stalls, games and birds of prey. A special thank you to our Fun and Funds Group for organising and running the event and to the Mayor of Rotherham for visiting and officially opening the picnic. In total, we raised over £1400 for school fund! THANK YOU EVERYONE!
Wales Primary Sports Person Of The Year 2017
Congratulations to our first ever winner of ‘Sports Person Of The Year’. He has worked extremely hard in every sporting competition that he has participated in. But not only that, he has competed in the correct spirit and has show respect towards the officials, the opposition and his own team mates. Well done, you thoroughly deserve this award!
Sport for Champions
A special visitor arrived at Wales Primary to help the children complete a sponsored sports circuit to raise money for GB athletes. Eden Francis, Team GB shot put and discus, joined in the circuit, gave an inspirational assembly about her career in athletics, demonstrated her technique on the field and even let the children hold her gold medal! Everyone had an amazing time!
Well done to two super, hardworking children for achieving their silver Wales Code badges. They have earned their stickers because of their hardworking attitudes.
Key Stage 2 Sports Day Winners…
Well done to everyone who took part in sports day. There were some amazing skills on show and some extremely positive Wales Values demonstrated by the competitors. Congratulations to White Team who lifted the trophy in what was a very close competition!
Congratulations to a father and daughter partnership for getting their grading licenses in martial arts. They have worked very hard in sessions outside of school and we wish them good luck for the future!
Double Wales Award!
Congratulations to two superstar learners for achieving their first wales Code badges. They have worked extremely hard to earn their stickers and demonstrated positive learning behaviours around school. Well done!
Healthy Fruit Snacks
Year 2 worked extremely hard at playtime to make healthy fruit snacks for the rest of the school. Everyone enjoyed eating them and trying something new!
Mr Miller held a special tennis assembly talking about how he got into tennis and his experiences playing the game. He showed the children an inspirational video about the Davis Cup and then handed out some rackets as prizes for a member from each class for working hard in his tennis sessions.
Well done to our school cricket team who competed in the Rotherham Schools Final at Wickersley CC. They played very well and grew in confidence with each game that they played, showing great resilience, determination and co-operation. Well done everyone for finishing joint 3rd and a special thank you to the parents who attended to support our children!
One studious child even fitted in a spot of reading while she was waiting for her turn to bat! A brilliant attitude to learning!
Fantastic football achievement
Congratulations to a footballing star for competing with his team in his first ever tournament. His team won the overall competition and he was awarded a medal for his hard work and effort in extremely hot conditions. Well done!
Super sporting achievement assembly
EYFS and Key Stage 1 held a fantastic assembly filled with sporting success. The children demonstrated their out of school sporting skills ranging from gymnastics and dance to athletics and football. Well done everyone for taking part!
Helping the community
Our Year 6 children have threaded their needles in order to create a back drop for the Land Trusts community ‘Kivo Pit-nic’. The picnic will be held on 25th June from 1pm – 5pm. Bring your picnic and chairs for a family day on Kiveton Community Woodland with live music, traditional games, children’s activities and heritage displays. Celebrating 150 years since Kiveton Park Colliery reached the coal seam and 240 years since the opening of the Chesterfield Canal.

Wales Healthy Lifestyles Week
There was fun in the sun to kick start our Healthy Lifestyles Week. A wake up shake up session was followed by a fun travel on wheels event and a special opening assembly with Miss Harley. All the children are excited to be taking part in a series of fantastic healthy activities during the week…
Congratulations to a superstar swimmer who achieved a bronze medal in her first ever competition! Well done for showing great determination and sticking at it!
Congratulations to our latest Wales Code award winners. They have been working extremely hard to gain stickers by demonstrating the Wales Code in all their learning. Well done!
E-Safety At Wales Primary
The children at Wales Primary had a fantastic time developing their understanding of how to stay safe when they are on line with Mrs Foxley -Johnson and Mrs Sharp. Our Governor, Mrs Sharpe, also attended and was amazed at our children’s engagement, enthusiasm and honesty! Some children produced informative leaflets and posters for the other children in school and parents at home. Well done!
Congratulations to a fantastic writer who has worked extremely hard to produce two brilliant character descriptions, one for Robin Hood and the other for The Sheriff Of Nottingham. She used excellent adjectives and beautiful handwriting, well done!
We have temporary posts, with a view to them being made permanent, to commence as soon as possible working 1¼ hour each day from 11:45am to 1:00pm term time only.

Amazing Drama Club
Our drama club, run by Miss Woodruff and Miss Hemming, performed their version of Chicken Licken for the whole school. The children demonstrated fantastic singing, amazing characterisation and tremendous character voices with expression. Everyone was amazed and gave them a well deserved round of applause!
Under 11s Cricket Team
Congratulations to under 11s cricket team who were the cluster event winners. They played fantastically well as a team showing lots of Wales Values to support one another. They now represent the cluster in the Rotherham final at Wickersley CC. Well done everyone!
Super Silver Star
Congratulations to the latest Wales Code silver star achiever. She has worked extremely hard to achieve the wales stickers in everything that she does, well done!
Positive friendship stop
An unsuspecting child was caught leaving a positive message at our friendship stop for the children of Wales. Well done!
There were lots of hard working children in Wales demonstrating their fantastic writing. They included beautiful handwriting and presentation with superb descriptive sentences to create different moods, well done!
Year 5 Mathematics
Year 5 were put through their paces by Miss Middleton from Wales High School. They developed their knowledge of formal written methods and applied them to solve very tricky problems.
Year 3, 4 and 5 had a great time with Ann Foxley-Johnson exploring conflict and how to resolve it using their communication, cooperation and resilience skills.
General Election 2017
Year 5 and 6 worked extremely hard picking apart each party’s manifesto before casting their votes in a mock election. There were some excellent reasoning skills using supporting evidence and debating between the children. They then finished by creating their own political party and manifesto with some very interesting pledges!

Well done to the latest bronze star award winner for working hard to achieve Wales Stickers in all that she does!
Amazing home learning…
A Year 2 child has been hard at work designing a castle for her class topic then creating the model using a 3D printer. Well done!
Respect all around Wales
Everyone joined together in a special assembly at Wales Primary School to pay their respects and send their love to those people affected by the recent events in London.

Year 6 Bikeability
Although the weather was cold and wet, our Year 6 children demonstrated amazing resilience, communication and independence when taking part in their bikeability sessions. They developed their understanding of how to stay safe on the playground first before heading out onto the road to apply their new skills. A fantastic job performed by all, well done!

Fantastic Programming in Year 1
Year 1 had a fantastic time using the iPads to create a comic telling the story of Robin Hood. They created some amazing outcomes and developed their coding skills by changing fonts, inputting sentences, inserting speech bubbles and even altering illustrations.
Congratulations to a super star dancer for her achievements of a 1st and 2nd Place in her latest Grand Finals. Well done and we hope to see her on T.Vs Strictly Come Dancing in the future. Keep it up!

Brilliant Book Fair
The book fair was a fantastic success at Wales Primary School with over 250 books being sold throughout the week. The children were fully engrossed in their new books taking them outside at play times and asking for extended reading time. A huge thank you needs to be said to our parent helpers and Year 6 monitors who came early every morning, helped the children to select a book, took orders and completed payments. To reward them for their dedication and resilience they were awarded £5 to be redeemed on a book of their choice. Well done!
Over 130 children were awarded for their excellent half term attendance of over 98% with a film in the hall. Well done everyone, keep it up!
Wales Primary pay their respects
The children and staff at Wales Primary School paid their respects to those who were killed and hurt in the Manchester attack. We were joined by the Partnership nursery to hold a minutes silence at 11 o’clock in remembrance of those affected by the terrible incident on Monday night.

These were a few of the words used by Wales Primary School children on our Rotherham Charter Gold/Genuine Partnerships Re-accreditation visit today. Our visitors were impressed by everything they saw especially the confidence and skills of our incredible children making the biggest impression. A HUGE well done to all our children, parents, governors and staff for their hard work in achieving this award!
Year 2 Creating Castles
Year 2 had fun in the sun when they constructed their castle models. They demonstrated excellent co-operation, communication, respect, resilience and independence to make them as realistic as possible.

Reading for Pleasure Time
Children across school enjoyed reading for pleasure time this afternoon. There was lots of excellent shared reading between classes and reading favourite books in the sun!
Brilliant Book Fair
Lots of children and parents enjoyed perusing the book fair for fantastic books before they entered school. The firm favourite of today was The Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney.
RUFC Healthy Lifestyles Workshop
Years 5 and 6 had a fantastic afternoon working with RUFC coaches to develop their understanding of healthy lifestyles. They participated in different fun activities and worked hard to use excellent communication, co-operation, resilience, respect and independence skills.
A Wonderful Wales Code Day!
There were lots of Wales Code awards to be handed out on the same day. Outstanding Learners, Gold Awards and First Wales Code Awards were presented to the hardworking children for their application of the code in all their learning. Well done everyone!
Congratulations to a kind-hearted girl for completing the Race for Life. She did this as a random act of kindness and managed to raise £300 for people affected by cancer. What a marvellous achievement, well done!
Year 3 and 4 children enjoyed testing their problem solving and reasoning skills with Miss Middleton from Wales High School. They had to demonstrate great co-operation skills, communication and resilience to solve a range of tricky problems. Well done!
Grand Opening Of The Wales Library
The children at Wales were in for a special treat when David Littlewood, a local author and grandparent, opened our newly refurbished school library. He talked about being an author and the importance of reading, read part of his new book and cut the red ribbon to open it to the children. A special thank you needs to be said to Mrs Stewart, for all her hard work in organising the books and to the parents and children who kindly donated books to be used.
If you go down to the woods…
Our EYFS children, with help from Year 6 and parents, have been busy clearing our woodland in preparation for the development of a forest schools classroom. They had to use excellent co-operation, communication, resilience and respect to get the job done. Here is a view before and after their hard work, well done everyone!
Random Acts Of Kindness
The Wales have been demonstrating their kindness and empathy towards others by completing an act of kindness for no personal gain. Each one, no matter how small or large, was extremely important and we congratulate everyone for taking part.
There has been some amazing writing in Year 2 and here is a super example from a hardworking girl. She has developed her handwriting, punctuation and sentence structure to produce fantastic pieces of work. Well done!
Our latest mission is for our children to get caught extreme reading. The idea is for children, adults and staff to enjoy reading something of their choice in a different place. All extreme reads need to be completed and returned to class teachers by Friday July 14th. HAPPY READING!

Friendship Monitors introduce the Wales Friendship Stop
Our friendship monitors have been hard at work making good use of a kind donation from a child’s great grandmother. They have created a friendship stop in school and have purchased lots of games so that children can play together and make new friends at play times.
Second Wales Code Award Winner
Well done to a superstar learner for being the second child to achieve the first Wales Code Award. She works extremely hard in everything that she does and we are very proud of her achievement!
Year 5 Coding
Year 5 had a fun afternoon with staff from the CLC learning and developing their coding skills.

Samara’s Aid Appeal
Calling all Wales Primary children – we need your help! As a school, we are helping one of our parents, Mrs Walker, to create aid packages to send to Syria. We are asking for donations outlined on the list below. Anything, no matter how little or large, will be kindly received.

A group of Year 3 and Year 4 children were hard at work solving maths problems with Mrs Middleton from Wales High School. They had to explain their reasoning, apply their skills and work logically to solve some extremely tough problems. Well done!

Year 2 visit Lincoln Castle
Year 2 had a fabulous time visiting Lincoln Castle. They explored the castle, made shields and even had a medieval banquet!
Year 6 FootGolf
Year 6 had lots of fun playing footgolf at Rother Valley. Even though it was raining, it didn’t dampen their spirits and everyone enjoyed trying to score pars and birdies.
Magic Trip For Year 4
Year 4 had a magical time on their trip to Grimm and Co. They explored the magical shop before writing some excellent stories in a secret room behind the magic bookcase!
An extremely happy child received a special letter from the Prince of Wales after she wrote a letter to him!

Wales Primary School – G4S Champions!
Our football team were crowned the G4S Champions after defeating Greasbrough Primary 1-0. The final, which was held at half time during the Rotherham vs Derby game, was extremely exciting with the winning goal being scored in the final minutes. The players demonstrated great determination, co-operation, communication, resilience and respect in their victory and well deserved to receive the trophy from Jerry Yates. A huge thank you needs to be said to the parents who supported us and an enormous well done to the players!
Amazing Greek Myth
Year 3 have been learning about the Ancient Greeks and have created their own detailed myths. Here is one amazing example!

Year 6 PSHCE
Year 6 had a special visit from Mrs Wright who helped them to explore their talents, achievements, thoughts and feelings and ways to deal with different emotions.

Coding in Year 4
Year 4 had an exiting morning using coding script to develop a comic based on their topic Magic. They had to input the correct commands to make sure that their titles, photographs, pictures and text were correctly added to their comic strip.

A talented child did extremely well competing for Sheffield Wednesday Under 12s in the Sligo Super Cup against teams like Northern Ireland and even Celtic! A fantastic achievement, well done!
Our after school Art club has been working extremely hard with Mrs Baxter and Mrs Askey to create a fabulous mosaic of our school badge. It will be displayed proudly in school, well done everyone who participated!
Unbelievable achievements this morning

Great Greek writing
Year 3 were working very hard learning about the ancient Greeks. They developed detailed character profiles about a different God or Goddess. They even added actions and character voices when presenting their work. Amazing!
Prince William Award in Wales
Year 5 received a taster session with Tom from the Prince William Award. They developed their communication, cooperation, independence, resilience and respect skills by taking part in different tasks and solving challenging problems. Everyone had lots of fun!

Well done to our latest silver superstar for achieving her silver Wales award. She has worked extremely hard to demonstrate our learning code in lessons, keep it up!
Brilliant home learning
A superstar learner showed off his fabulous home learning – a fully working 8 cylinder engine! Well done!
Wimbledon came to Wales with a flurry of tennis action taking place on the playground. Mr Miller developed children’s skills and technique in lots of exciting activities and games. Everyone had lots of fun!

Assembly with Minister Geoffrey
Minister Geoffrey, from the local Methodist Church, visited Wales to deliver a special assembly all about what makes things precious to us. The children learnt about Geoffrey’s experiences in Africa and that kindness is extremely valuable to everyone.
Well done to a very talented gymnast for achieving a gold medal in her latest competition. A super achievement to come 1st out of 13 competitors!
Congratulations to everyone at Wales Primary School for achieving the Mode Shift Stars Bronze Award. This is in recognition of all the hard work everyone has put into coming to school on two wheels, taking part in exciting events and improving their riding skills. Well done!

Year 6 Trip To Sheffield
Year 6 enjoyed a fantastic trip to Sheffield to visit Graves Art Gallery. They caught the train from Kiveton and enjoyed looking at the different pieces of art on display.
Super movement evening
Congratulations to all our children who represented Wales Primary at the High School movement evening. They showed great determination, cooperation, communication and bravery to perform dances and gymnastics routines in front of 500 parents! Well done everyone – we are super proud of you all!
Congratulations to our marvellous mathematicians who participated in a maths team challenge at Wales High School against other Year 6 children from other schools. They applied their skills remarkably well to finish 3rd and 1st overall! Well done everyone!
Year 5 Rockets
Year 5 were working extremely hard to make a suitable rocket to travel back in time. They demonstrated brilliant cooperation, resilience and communication skills to create detailed 3d models.

Congratulations to our gymnastics superstar for winning a silver medal in her event. What makes it special was that she competed all the way in Wales (the country)! Well done!
Excellent Easter Service
The whole school and parents enjoyed a special Easter Service at our local church with Reverend Gary Schofield.
